Hello again,
As we continue our journey through the directions in Vastu, we now arrive at the final group of zones in this direction series - the Western directions.
So far in this series, we have explored how different elements influence different parts of our home.
The North brought the Water element, supporting flow and opportunities.
The East carried the Air element, influencing connection and freshness.
The South revealed Fire and Earth, giving action and stability.
Today we arrive at the last element in this sequence - Space (Aakash).
The Western directions are primarily connected with the Space element, and space plays a very unique role in Vastu. While other elements create activity or structure, space creates room for things to manifest. It governs expansion, direction, and how our efforts finally translate into results.
The Western belt includes four zones:
• West-South-West (WSW)
• West (W)
• West-North-West (WNW)
• North-West (NW)
Each of these zones quietly influences how we learn, how our efforts turn into gains, how we release emotional pressure, and how support arrives in our lives.
Let’s understand them one by one.
West-South-West (WSW): The Zone of Learning and Savings
This zone is connected with practice, learning, and the ability to convert effort into lasting results.
Think of it as the part of life where discipline slowly turns into stability. When this zone is balanced, it supports education, skill development, and the ability to save what we earn.
This zone supports:
• learning and concentration
• consistent practice
• converting effort into long-term savings
• discipline in financial habits
For this reason, this area can work well for a study space or a child’s bedroom, as it encourages focus and steady learning.
If a toilet is placed here:
Saving money may become difficult. Even accumulated wealth - property, jewellery, or savings - may gradually get depleted. Children may also struggle with focus in studies.
If a kitchen or stove is placed here:
Financial savings may weaken, and children may lose interest in studying even if they are capable.
Colours and materials to avoid:
• Red
• Green and Brown
• Blue (which slowly exhausts this zone)
• Copper and Steel
West (W): The Zone of Gains and Fulfillments
The central western direction is often associated with receiving the rewards of effort.
It represents the stage where hard work begins to show visible results. In simple terms, it governs profits, achievements, and fulfillment of wishes.
This zone supports:
• financial gains
• rewards from effort
• productivity and efficiency
• fulfillment of goals
If a toilet is placed here:
Efforts may not bring the expected rewards. People may work very hard but feel that the results never fully reach them. Property-related complications can also appear.
If a kitchen or stove is placed here:
This placement is actually supportive. It can strengthen financial gains and overall health, and is often considered beneficial for those connected with food or hospitality businesses.
Colours and materials to avoid:
• Red
• Green and Brown
• Blue (which exhausts the energy of this zone)
• Copper and Steel
West-North-West (WNW): The Zone of Emotional Release
This zone has a very interesting function. Traditionally it is sometimes called the “release zone.”
Just as the body needs to release physical toxins, the mind also needs spaces where it can release emotional pressure, stress, and accumulated thoughts.
This zone supports:
• emotional detox
• releasing stress
• letting go of past burdens
• clearing mental heaviness
If a toilet is placed here:
This can actually be beneficial, as it supports emotional release and helps people gradually let go of suppressed feelings.
If a kitchen or stove is placed here:
This placement can overstimulate the system and has been linked with mood imbalance or stress-related health concerns.
Colours and materials to avoid:
• Red
• Green and Brown
• Blue exhausts the energy of this zone
• Copper and Steel
North-West (NW): The Zone of Support and Assistance
The North-West direction governs movement, support from others, and external assistance.
It represents the people and systems that help us move forward - friends, institutions, financial backing, or professional networks.
This zone supports:
• helpful connections
• institutional or banking support
• cooperation from others
• partnerships and assistance
If a toilet is placed here:
Support from others may reduce, and financial or banking-related complications may arise.
If a kitchen or stove is placed here:
People may find themselves needing financial help frequently instead of being fully self-reliant.
Colours and materials to avoid:
• Red
• Green
• Brown
• Blue (which slowly exhausts the zone’s energy)
• Copper and Steel
A Gentle Reminder About Vastu
At this point in the series, it is important to pause and acknowledge something honestly.
The subject of Vastu is extremely vast. Through these blogs, we have only touched a very small part of it - just enough to help you begin observing your space with more awareness.
My intention in writing this series was to help you see the quiet relationship between space and life.
Sometimes the difficulties we face are not only about our efforts or abilities. Occasionally, they arise simply because we are unaware of how our environment is influencing us.
Ignorance of something can quietly become the very reason for our suffering. Awareness does not solve everything immediately - but it opens the door to change.
A Thoughtful Closing
With the Western directions, we complete the circle of elements in this direction series. We saw how:
• Water supports flow
• Air supports connection
• Fire supports action
• Earth supports stability
• and Space supports manifestation
Together, these elements shape the subtle conversation between our homes and our lives.
In the next blog - which will be the final blog of this series - we will look at something very practical. How to correctly understand and read the directions of your own home when trying to decode its Vastu.
Until then, simply continue observing your space. Notice where you feel calm. Notice where things seem to flow easily. Notice where you feel resistance.
Sometimes the house we live in is quietly guiding us - we only need to start listening.
Warmly,
