Hello again,
Over the past several blogs, we have slowly walked through the different directions in Vastu and understood what each of them represents. We explored how every direction carries certain qualities and how those qualities can influence different aspects of our lives.
However, understanding the directions is only one part of the process. The next important step is knowing how to actually identify those directions correctly inside your own home.
This brings us to the final and very practical piece of this Vastu series.
When people try to check directions in their homes, they often make one common mistake. They stand inside the room they want to check, like the kitchen or bedroom, and then try to read the compass from there. This can easily create confusion.
The ideal way to identify directions in any house is to stand approximately at the center of the home.
Once you are standing near the center, hold your compass flat on your palm and point it toward the area you want to understand. If you are using a phone, you will notice that the compass will show a direction along with degrees on the screen.
From the center of the house, you can then draw an imaginary line toward the place you want to check.
For example, if you want to know where your gas stove falls in terms of Vastu, do not stand in the kitchen. Instead, stand near the center of your home and point the compass toward the place in the kitchen where the gas stove is located.
Then imagine a straight line going from where you are standing to the stove.
The degree that appears on your phone will give you an approximate understanding of which direction that object belongs to.
In the same way, you can check the approximate directions of:
• your kitchen
• your gas stove
• your toilet seats
• and other important placements in the house
By comparing those directions with the information shared in the previous blogs, you can begin to understand whether the placement is supportive or not.
Now, another important point is the type of compass you use.
As professional Vastu consultants, we generally do not rely only on handheld compasses. This is because most homes contain metal objects, electronics, and other items that can slightly disturb the compass reading. Even a few degrees of change can affect a detailed analysis.
However, for general awareness and personal understanding, using a handheld compass or a phone compass is perfectly fine.
If you choose to use your phone, make sure that the phone has a built-in compass. Avoid using phones where you have to download a compass application separately, because those apps are often less reliable.
Phones with an inbuilt compass usually come with a gyroscope, which helps provide more accurate directional readings.
Many people have noticed that iPhones tend to have very reliable compass readings, and some higher-end Samsung phones also work quite well.
Even then, it is always wise to consider a small variation of about plus or minus five degrees when looking at the readings.
If you prefer using a traditional compass that points only to the North, that can work too. But in that case, you must already be comfortable identifying the other directions once you know where North lies.
For most people, using a phone with an inbuilt compass is the simplest and easiest method.
Once you know how to identify directions from the center of your home, you can gradually observe how the different zones of your house are being used.
This simple awareness itself can give you many useful insights.
A Final Word on This Vastu Series
With this blog, we come to the final article in this Vastu series.
The subject of Vastu is extremely vast, and through these blogs we have only touched a small portion of it. My intention was simply to help you become more aware of how the spaces we live in quietly influence our lives.
Sometimes our struggles are not only about our efforts or abilities. At times they are simply the result of not being aware of how our environment affects us.
When we begin to observe our surroundings with a little more understanding, we naturally start making better choices.
And often, even small corrections can bring noticeable shifts.
What Comes Next
Starting next week, I will be shifting away from this structured Vastu series.
Instead, I will begin sharing short, reflective blogs inspired by my experiences with clients during therapy sessions. Over the years, many people have come seeking healing, clarity, or simply a way to move through the challenges they were facing. Naturally, no names or personal details will ever be shared, as client confidentiality will always be respected.
Through those experiences, I have learned many lessons about the human mind, emotions, and the journey of healing.
In the coming blogs, I will share some of those insights and stories, so that others may learn, reflect, and perhaps see their own lives from a new perspective.
A Gentle Closing
Our homes quietly shape us in ways we often overlook.
Just as our thoughts influence our lives, the spaces we live in also play their part. When we become aware of both our inner world and our outer environment, life begins to move with a little more ease.
Thank you for walking through this Vastu journey with me. And as always, stay curious, stay observant, and keep learning.
Warmly,
