We’re constantly surrounded by thoughts—our own and everyone else’s. Judgments. Opinions. Beliefs. Expectations. Emotions. Some are helpful. Some are heavy. And a lot of them? Not even ours to begin with. So how do we keep our peace in the middle of all that noise? This simple tool can help.
“Interesting point of view.”
You can use this phrase anytime you find yourself:
• Thinking something that makes you feel small, wrong, or stuck
• You hear someone else’s belief or limitation and don’t want to take it on
• Caught up in someone else’s drama, emotions, or strong opinions
• Reacting instead of responding
It’s not about agreeing or disagreeing. It’s about stepping back and reminding yourself: “This is just a point of view. It’s not truth. I don’t have to take it on.”
The moment you say, “Interesting point of view...” you soften your grip on whatever was pulling you in. Instead of getting stuck in the story or judgment, you create space. From that space, you can breathe. You can choose. You can let go.
Example:
A co-worker says something harsh or negative?“Interesting point of view...”
You catch yourself judging your body or doubting your choices?“Interesting point of view...”
Someone around you is anxious, angry, or intense—and you feel it start to affect your mood?Pause and remind yourself: “That’s their energy. That’s their reality. I don’t have to take it on.”
Just say “Interesting point of view...”
Practice This Week
Whenever something feels heavy or sticky, try this tool. Say the phrase a few times. Notice what shifts. You don’t need to fight thoughts or feelings. You just don’t have to make them real, or yours.
It’s one of the most freeing tools I’ve ever used. Give it a try, and let me know how it goes in the comments. And remember: just because someone believes something…doesn’t mean you have to.
